Required Documents for a Foreigner Who Wants to Live in Nepal without Doing Any Business

  1. Receipt of the online application.
  2. Bank statement of USD 20,000.
  3. Certificate having a regular income of at least USD 20,000 per year.
  4. Character Certificate. ** (Character Certificate from the Police station or the government office / Authority of the respective applicant's country.)
  5. No Objection letter from the concerned country's Embassy.
  6. Health certificate issued by the TU Teaching Hospital, Nepal.
  7. The evidence of completing 60 years (or) proof of retirement.
  8. Copy of valid passport and a recent Nepalese visa.
  9. The Residential visa is granted for more than one (1) year and is according to the decision from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  10. Fees to be charged = Nepalese Currency Equivalent to USD 700 per year for the new visa. and,
  11. For renewal Expenditure Statement of USD 20,000 should be necessary to shown, and the charge required for renewal residential visa is USD 1200.
  • The next day, after the approval of the Home Ministry and fulfillment of the required valid documents as prescribed above, the Immigration Office will approve a Residential Visa. And in renewal, the approval will be on the same day.Now, the period for the visa grant is a minimum, 1 month may also take more which should only be happen only after the decision from the Home Ministry of Nepal.
  • You must provide one(1) color, passport-typed photograph that must cover the following criteria:-
    • It should be taken within the last three months and high quality photo paper.
    • Required photo size: - 45 mm in height and 35 mm in width.

Rules and Requirements for Visa Photos in Nepal

  • Make sure that the background against which you take your picture is white and make sure it should not include any shadows and patterns.
  • The lighting in the environment in which you want to take your picture must not be too bright or too dim. Also, you can avoid shadows on your face.
  • When you take your passport photo or visa photo, you must keep your head straight and your face forward. Place the camera at eye level for the best possible angle. Do not move your head in any direction since portrait-style photos are always turned down.
  • When you take your picture, make sure to refrain from making any facial expressions other than neutral. You cannot smile, frown, raise your brows or squint.
  • You should remove your glasses before taking your picture if their frames are too large. If you keep them on, check the photo for flash reflection. As you can imagine, sunglasses and eyeglasses with tinted lenses are not allowed in a passport photo or visa photo.
  • If you always cover your head for religious purposes, you are allowed to keep your headwear on when you take your passport photo or visa photo. However, your face must be visible from the bottom of your chin to the top of your forehead. Also, the headwear should not cast shadows on your face.
  • If you have a beard as a part of your everyday appearance, you are not compelled to shave it off before you take your passport photo or visa photo.
